Install and first-time setup

1. Before you start

  • A Mac (macOS 13 or later) or a Linux (x64) computer.
  • At least one AI account: a paid Claude subscription, a paid ChatGPT subscription or a Google account. You can also have all of them and pick per agent.
  • Optional: if you want more agents than your quota allows, get a free API key from a service such as OpenRouter for less important agents. Free plans may train on your conversations, so keep confidential work away from them.
  • Optional: Google Chrome (only needed if agents should operate websites).

2. Install the app

Follow the steps for your computer on the download page.

3. First launch: the start screen

The app first checks your computer:

  • AI tools: you only need the one you have an account for. If it is missing, press Copy to get the install command, run it in a terminal, then come back and press Check again.
    • Claude: after installing, run claude in a terminal, type /login once it starts and sign in through your browser.
    • Codex (ChatGPT): after installing, press Sign in to ChatGPT on the start screen. If you see 400 Bad Request: Invalid request, sign in at chatgpt.com in the same browser first, then press the button again.
    • Gemini: after installing, run gemini in a terminal, choose Login with Google and sign in through your browser.
  • Chrome and sandbox: follow the hints on screen. You can start without them.
  • When everything looks good, press Get started. To see this screen again later (for example after installing another tool), open Settings in the lower left and choose AI tools and sign-in at the top.

4. Meet the coordinator

On first launch there is a default agent called the Coordinator. Just tell it what you want done. When needed, it creates teammates or hands the work to existing ones.

5. Pick a model for an agent

Open the agent's Advanced settings → Model, choose an adapter, then press a shortcut button or type a model name:

  • Claude: haiku (cheapest), sonnet, opus (strongest and most expensive).
  • Gemini: auto, pro, flash, flash-lite.
  • Codex: the buttons list the models Codex reports for your account.

6. Use your own API key (optional)

In the agent's Advanced settings → Model, choose the openai-compatible adapter and enter the base URL (for OpenRouter, https://openrouter.ai/api/v1), your API key and a model name. These agents can chat and work with teammates but cannot read or write files.

7. Set permissions and web access

In the agent's tool settings, choose a permission level (chat only, read workspace, read and write workspace or full access), and turn on Allow web search if needed. Only you can change these, on screen.

8. Talk to the coordinator from your phone (optional)

Telegram

  1. In Telegram, find @BotFather, send /newbot and answer its questions. You end up with a bot token. Treat it like the bot's password and do not share it.
  2. In the app, open Settings in the lower left → Messaging, paste the token in the Telegram section → Save credentials → turn on Enable.
  3. Press Generate pairing code and send the 6 digits on screen (valid for 10 minutes) to your bot. When the app shows Paired, you are done.

iMessage (iPhone, through the third-party service Photon)

  1. Sign up at Photon (photon.codes), create a project and note its Project ID and Project Secret.
  2. On the project's Users page, add your iPhone number. You get an iMessage number to send messages to.
  3. In the app, open Settings → Messaging, paste the project ID and secret in the iMessage section → Save credentials → Enable → Generate pairing code.
  4. Send the 6 digits from your iPhone to that number. When the app shows Paired, you are done. Only iMessages (blue bubbles) are accepted, not SMS.

To stop: Settings → Messaging → Unpair; to stop completely, Clear credentials. One Telegram bot can only connect to one computer.
