# Download Universe Bot

> Universe Bot for Mac (Apple silicon or Intel) and Linux (AppImage). Install in three steps, then sign in to the Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini account you have.

Current version 0.2.5. Free during the beta; model costs depend on the services you use.

## Mac (Apple silicon or Intel)

1. Download the version for your Mac. Not sure which one? Open About This Mac from the Apple menu: if it says Chip Apple M…, pick Apple silicon; if it says Processor Intel…, pick Intel.
2. Open the dmg and drag Universe Bot into your Applications folder.
3. Open Universe Bot from Applications. This closed beta is not notarized yet, so the first time you open it, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
4. macOS asks whether the app may use universe-bot Safe Storage in your keychain. Enter your Mac login password and click Always Allow. This key encrypts the API keys and passwords you save in the app.

## Linux (x64, AppImage)

1. Download the AppImage file.
2. In your file manager, right-click it, open Properties → Permissions and tick Allow executing file as program. Or run chmod +x UniverseBot-*.AppImage in a terminal.
3. Double-click to open it. If AppImageLauncher is installed, it first asks whether to add the app to your menu; either answer is fine.

## System requirements

| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 13 or later; Apple silicon or Intel (Intel Macs from about 2017 on) |
| Linux | x64 with a desktop environment that can run AppImages |
| Encrypted storage | The keychain on macOS; on Linux a system keyring such as GNOME Keyring. Without one, the app refuses to save API keys rather than storing them in plain text |
| Google Chrome | Optional; only needed if agents should operate websites |
| Sandbox tools (Linux) | Optional; bubblewrap and socat are needed for the read and write workspace level |

## AI tools to set up first (at least one)

| Account you want to use | Tool to install | Install command | Sign in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude subscription | Claude Code | `curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh \| bash` | Run `claude` in a terminal, then type `/login` |
| ChatGPT subscription | Codex CLI | `npm install -g @openai/codex` (needs Node.js) | Click Sign in to ChatGPT on the app's start screen |
| Google account | Gemini CLI | `npm install -g @google/gemini-cli` (needs Node.js) | Run `gemini` in a terminal and choose Login with Google |
| Your own API key | Nothing to install | — | Enter it under the agent's Advanced settings → Model |

No need to memorize any of this. The first time you open the app, the start screen checks what your computer is missing and gives you install commands you can copy.
